CUSTOM ROMAN MODELS FOR SKYRIM'S LEGIONS

Part of the Imperial Affairs mod series

=============================
Mods Contents
=============================

This mod contains mostly the cliche versions of the armor and weapons from the early to high Imperial period of the Roman era. They are not 100% historically accurate because of my own skill limitations, game's limitations and because there is much debate and uncertainty about what "historically accurate" exactly is. This is what the mod contains:
- 2 types of gladius or spanish sword;
- 2 types of Spatha or longsword/cavalry sword
- 2 daggers - one Roman (pugio) and one Celto-Roman
- a deco "fake" version of the pugio dagger to be worn on the right side.
- 3 types of shields - light (parma) medium light (cetratus) and one heavy (scutum). The cetratus shield comes in red and blue.
The Scutum mesh comes in two versions. 'V2" is the one with the standard Skyrim handle that looks better when used by player in 1st person view.
Scutum has a retexture.
- lorica laminata/segmentata set - a heavy segmented armor set, including several types of helmets (galea), two types of boots, separate left and right arm protection (manica)
- lorica hamata set - a light chainmail armor set
- lorica musculata set - a heavy armor officer's set
- Arcani armor set - a light armor spy outfit
- Centurion armor set - a light armor set
- a cape to serve as a sort of sagum for now (three types, one for light armor, one for heavy armor and one for Arcani)
- 2 legionary rings (jewelry)
- 3 types of javelins - they are currently quite overpowered, just the way I like it.
- a Roman standard that summons a couple of imperial ghosts from the legion

- Extra retextured items by JedJTL and SPQRLegate can be downloaded as the optional file.

The armour is quite racist and sexist unfortunately, in the sense that it is meant for human males, with the female versions of the armour being backwards compatible - some pieces are still being worked on, some pieces are missing, and everything is just of poorer quality than their male counterparts. I'm sorry, but spending time on the female armour knowing that there were no (or very few) Roman female soldiers makes it a 2nd priority for me.

=============================
Installation and location
=============================

Once you download the mod, the archive file contains 2 esp files:

I. Roman Armor and Weapons esp: This is a standalone mod that adds all the armour sets and weapons into a room located in the imperial quarters in Solitude (look in the back room behind general Tullius) and some items are also sold by the Solitude blacksmith.

II. Roman Armor and Weapons Replacer esp: replaces the vanilla imperial armors with the ones from No. I. DO BEWARE that any mods that modify leveled lists may interfere with my mod. Also some effects will only take place after Skyrim resets its cells (a month in game?).

You can use either of these esp files . They are designed to work independently from each other. Both esps contan mostly the same types of craftable armor and weapons, but there are slight differences, like the replacer version doesn't contain the javelins. This does mean if you have both esps enabled, most of the armors will appear twice in the list of craftable items.

To install the mod, copy the contents of the data folder inside the zip file into the data folder in your Skyrim directory. Click yes if Windows asks you whether you want to merge folders (my files do not replace any of the game's original files). Then, on the game's startup screen click "data files" and click the checkboxes next to the mod names. Should be relatively simple.

BUGS and other issues
=============================

   PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE REPORTING IN COMMENTS
=======================================================================================
This mod still contains many little "bugs" at the moment. The more content I add, the more bugs. This outlines some of the major issues you may see:

i. There are still some clipping issues during animations, especially on the female character - I hope not as noticeable though. For the record it is not the mesh itself, but rather the animation.

ii. Currently there is LIMITED SUPPORT and no plans for adding full support for special races like Khajits, so the armour may look weird/broken on them or may not work - I don't know as haven't tested this and don't really care to.

iii. There is support for the females, but it is not full yet.

iv. There are distortions in texture during animations, especially on the chainmail - it is more obvious on other NPCs. I have been trying to fix it for a while now and will continue to do so, but even vanilla armors get distorted. I cannot do much about the stretching in the areas of the skirt, like the pteruges (leather strips) on the officer's armour.

v. left hand manica doesn't show up in 1st person view (possibly a hardcoded bug)

vi. The back of the helmet is a bit too narrow and clips through long hair.

vii. Something's wrong with Tullius' gauntlets so I removed them (they should disappear the next time the game updates its cells).

viii. Please note that if you have both esps enabled then the items will appear in the list of craftable items twice - that is not a bug.

ix. When wearing centurion hamata first person upper part of your arm after the gauntlets is invisible .

x. For one of the heavy caligae types the slider just doesn't work. I don't know why or how to fix it.

Troubleshooting
=============================

1. IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL: to see all of the changes in the replacer version of my mod , Skyrim first needs to reset/respawn the characters it already spawned, so that means the old ones need to die first (or respawn otherwise). Use the "set timescale to 100000" command to skip time and/or wait and after a while new armors should start spawning AND make sure that the replacer esp file is lowest on your list of mods (that modify leveled lists of items)

2. Make sure your version of the game is updated with the latest patch or the game might crash when running the mod.

3. Move your mod down to the bottom of your list of mods.

4. If none of the above works, pour lighter fluid over hair, set it on fire and then run in circles with a 5 meter radius while screaming in panic but also send me a message, although I can't promise I'll be able to help

=============================
Conflicts
=============================

Any any mod that replaces the imperial armor or weapons will have a problem with the replacer version of my mod. You can still use the standalone esp in that case.

Mods that modify leveled lists may have a problem with the replacer version of my mod (because they may tell the imperial soldiers to wear something else than what my mod tells them to wear).

There seems to be a problem with the Civil War mod and the replacer esp of my mod:
1. Fast traveling to a civil war zone sometimes causes a crash/freeze.
2. My game will freeze in the midst of a busy battle sometimes. I think it might be all those high res textures and polys that push the PC too far. I tried cleaning my mod but to no result.

Performance impact
=============================

I am modelling with my computer specs in mind, which are about average. This means that most of my textures are 1024x. Some are 2048x and some are 512x, and I try to keep about the same amount of polys as the vanilla Skyrim meshes (which do differ considerably from armor to armor by the way). Yes, I could make my armor and weapons even prettier if I increased resolution and polycount even further, but I won't.

Legal

Since I am putting a lot of effort into this and my favorite sin is pride, you can use the mod and its contents for any non-commercial purposes, BUT please ask for permission first and please give due credit - it's the usual honor system.

Change history (previous versions):
=============================

Changes 0.9.1 quickfix:

- Amended the textures
- Made the armor and gladius craftable and temperable
- corrected some clipping and created plenty of new clipping
- fixed the sandals (they were being mangled up by the game)
- a couple of other minor corrections
- renamed the armor a bit
- changed the dimension of the gladius a bit
- fixed blood effects on the blade

Changes 0.9.2:

- Fixed a lot of clipping and distortions
- Fixed the textures some more
- Created a new plain looking gladius for the infantry
- Added crested helmet
- Added female character support
- Fixed missing feet
- a few other smaller fixes
- Fixed so that the overpowered version of the armor should be craftable and upgradable

Changes 0.9.3:

- Added light chainmail armor
- Fixed blood effects on the plain gladius
- Darkened the red tunic as requested
- Changed names of the items a bit

Version 0.9.4.
- Added an optional red cape for both light and heavy armors - occupies a separate armor slot
- Made it so that my Replacer mod now replaces the game's medium imperial armor with my heavy armor
- Added a Roman dagger (Pugio)
- Added a Roman dagger as a piece of clothing
- Added the fat model for the light chainmail armor (lorica hamata) so the slider/morpher should now work
- Made some changes to the texture of chainmail (lorica hamata)
- Fixed some of the animation distortions on chainmil (lorica hamata).

Version 0.9.5.
- The main point of this release is to try out new textures, so a lot of the textures have been changed or amended.
- A second set of less-shiny and more "worn" textures has been added for those who want them. After feedback and more experience I will further modify it.
- a few other minor changes
- added another version of the helmet with the crest going across.
- Daggers and cloaks are now worn by many of the soldiers when using my "replacer" version of the mod
- I also fixed the mismatch of light helmet and armor in the replacer version. Instead of replacing the studded imperial armor with the segmentata armor I simply increased the chance of heavy armor spawning.

Version 0.9.6.:

- Various fixes and amendments to the textures
- Fixed invisible 3rd person Helmets' models
- The armor and weapons are now sold by the Solitude Blacksmith
- Fixed in the replacer the soldiers wearing the wrong size cape with heavy armor
- Changed the helmets' classification so that heavy/light armor bonuses should now apply correctly
- A few other smaller changes

*Version 0.9.7. released:

- Added 1st person for armors
- Added 2 types of arm wraps to act as gauntlets for light armor
- Added light armor version of the caligae boots.
- a fix or two...

Version 0.9.7.5 quick fix:
I discovered that I may have messed up the first person lorica hamata mesh so that pixels would explode and hands weren't connecting right. This should fix it

Version 0.9.8
- Added two legionary rings to the game
- Added a light shield
- Fixed studded armor inventory appearance
- The centurion's helmet is now the officer's helmet while the helmet with the standard legionary crested helmet now replaces the "full face" imperial helmet.
- For most part fixed the hands and feet not connecting properly to the rest of the body
- Heavy armor soldiers wearing light armor cloaks should be fixed now.

*Version 0.9.9
1. Modified the light shield somewhat
2. Separated the manica hand armor from the rest of the bodyarmor. The replacer has it in the braces of imperial bracers now.
3. Added Javelins as a separate download
4. Changed textures of the heavy armor a bit
5. Fixed one of the crested helmets
6. Added light armor centurion's helmet
7. Changed the normal gladius textures a bit.
8. Fixed the blood effects on the dagger
9. Fixed replacer soldiers not wearing the dagger

*Version 1.0 released:
1. Added Lorica Hamata (light armor) for females
2. Modified mesh and texture for the heavy caligae
3. Added an extra type of heavy caligae boots
4. Added 2 Spatha cavalry / late infantry swords.
5. Added a version of heavy armor with pants
6. Changed the ownership of the chests in the standard and OP versions of the mod
7. Small texture changes here and there.

*Version 1.1 released:
- Introducing Officer's Armor Alpha/Beta.
- There is no longer an OP version!
- Instead, the strength of the armor sets in the standard version and in the replacer have been increased.
- Furthermore I checked the complaints about the wrong gauntlets worn by imperials and I have no idea why it is and I don't have this problem. Maybe it has something to do with the OP version, but I haven't checked since I am getting rid of that.

*Version 1.2 released:
- I made the slider work and added 1st person and inventory models to the officer armour

*Version 1.3 released:
- Added a backwards compatible female version of the officer's armour
- Various small texture fixes (helmet, uderskirt, etc)
- Fixed prices of segmented and light armours in the replacer version to fit the new strength settings (the standalone version still needs this change)
- Made officer helmet in the replacer temperable (the one found in the chest STILL ISN'T!)

*Version 1.4
- I have "bronzified" the textures of the officer' armour a bit more
- Madrilous fixed the scripting in the javelins and they have now been added the standard esp version! Go Madrilous!
IF YOU ARE USING THE ALPHA JAVELINS MOD, DISABLE IT! That one is now obsolete may interfere with the standard esp.
- Added a cohort/century Signum (roman standard).
- Added red round shield texture from SeptusTiberius as an alternative.
- Organised things a bit.
- A few minor fixes like sword damage and prices stabilization.

*Version 1.5:
Small incremental update:
- Made musculata from the standard esp upgradable and craftable
- Modified the textures of the officer's gladius.me.

*Version 1.6:
- Arcani armor Alpha added
- Arcani daggers
- replaced Tullius' armor.

*Version 1.6.5:
- Various tweaks
- Female version of Arcani

*Version 1.7:
- Centurion armor update
- Made the slider for the male Arcani armor work
- Made a few other administrative tweaks.

*Version 1.7.1:
Fix for the broken centurion armor

*Version 1.8:
	Added a simple Parma or small round shieldthere was an empty spot on a table I wanted to fill
	As promised, added a 2nd type of Scutum shield with the handle going the other way and flatter so that it can be carried straight. The NPCs still use the old version of the shield as I think it looks better on them.
	Updated textures for:
oArcani tunic
oArcani dagger
oScutum shield
oOfficers Musculata
oLorica Segmentata
oLorica Centuriata
This mostly concerns sharpening. When I was creating textures they would get blurry and in many cases I had forgotten to sharpen them once I was done.
	Fixed Arcani tunic distortion ; first person still distorts
	Re-organized the armory from the standalone version a bit.
	Tried to improve animation for lorica hamata (light chainmail armor) so that there is less clipping.
	Removed the strange shadow artifacts as much as I could
	Various other minor mesh changes
	Removed dependency on the Skyrim update I dont know if that means that you no longer need the latest version of Skyrim for the mod to work.

*Version 1.9
Added new manica mesh for left and right arm and a bunch of other stuff I forgot to copy paste in here so now I forgot what they were

*Versions 1.9.5
Again forgot to keep the log so it was just a small number of fixes and updates.

*1.9.6
Version 1.9.6 released
- Fixed female centurion gauntlets mesh
- Fixed the signum in the standalone version not summoning Imperial ghosts, although for some reason multiple summons per casting no longer work for me like before.
- JedJTL and SPQRLegate released a praetorian recolor as optional mod.

* Version 1.9.7
- Fixed 1st person missing arm part for males when wearing centurion armor (at least it works ok now for me).
- Made light caligae boots craftable and temperable in the standalone version
- Added temporary support for light caligae for females in the replacer esp ( so the same as in the standalone esp). Currently there is a strip of skin missing in the legs.
- Created a 3rd person mesh (inventory item) for centurion body armor.
- Made (3) sword scabbards a bit thicker
- Fixed the fastenings on Tullius's armor.

*version 1.9.8
- AngryEw0k and I teamed up to create a new type-D Roman helmet, possibly used by centurions or praetorians. It is not yet finished, but I promised some release this weekend so here we are.The new helmet is not compatible with beards as you will see.
- The rest of AngryEw0k's Hadrian Wall retexture pack has been added as well.
- For now the above armor with the helmet replaces Pentius Oculatus in the replacer, but they should probably be wearing a modified musculata rather than segmentata.
- From SPQRLegate we have new textures as well - see optional files.
